CACVT Credential Renewal FAQs

Question: Do I need to remain credentialed with CACVT if I am already registered with DORA?

Answer: Yes! Credentialing and registration for veterinary technicians in Colorado is now two steps with two separate entities - credentialing with CACVT and registering with Colorado's Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). To become registered or remain registered within Colorado, you must obtain and maintain your credentials with CACVT and then register with DORA.

Question: What are the credential and registration renewal time-frames?

Answer: Both credential renewal and registration renewal are 2-year cycles on even years. You can check when your credential expires by logging into your CACVT.org account and viewing your profile.

  • CACVT credential renewal is due by June 30th of EVEN years. You can always find more information about your CACVT credential renewal on our website or via email, if you have your email reminders from CACVT turned on.
  • DORA registration renewal is due by October 31st of EVEN years. DORA will contact you with registration renewal information once their process begins.

Question: I hold an RVT from DORA via endorsement. Do I need to credential with CACVT?

Answer: Yes! For registration renewals with DORA, you will need to carry an active credential with CACVT. You can find more information HERE.

Question: I have obtained my Provisional Veterinary Technician Registration (PVT) with DORA, do I need to submit CE with CACVT for renewal?

Answer: No. If you hold an active PVT but have not yet completed your requirements and moved forward with credentialing with CACVT, you are not currently credentialed and do not have a credential to renew. DORA will provide you with more information on renewing your PVT via email as it becomes available.

Question: How do I find out when I need to renew and how many CE hours I need for renewal?

Answer: You will need to renew your credentials within the renewal period prior to your credential expiration. If you are recently credentialed, you can also find your CE renewal requirements within your CACVT Credential Approval email in your inbox or by checking previously sent CACVT emails within your CACVT.org account. You can do this by logging in, clicking My Profile, and then going to Email History.

Question: Do I need to add a CACVT membership to stay credentialed?

Answer: No. You do not need to hold a membership with CACVT to be credentialed but with countless benefits like networking, industry discounts, professional learning and development, member-only CE, Spring Conference and other CE discounts, legislative and regulatory advocacy, AND MORE we highly recommend being a member!  You can find out more about Member Benefits HERE!

Question: Can I get an extension if I am not able to submit my renewal application by 6/30 of the renewal year?

Answer: CACVT does not offer extensions for renewal. If you are unable to submit your application for renewal by the 6/30 deadline, you will be able to apply for a Late Renewal at an additional fee. This fee will depend on the date that your renewal application is submitted.

Question: How do I know what CE counts towards my required CE hours for renewal and how do I log this CE?

Answer: You can find more information regarding CE hours within our CACVT CE Guidelines or CE FAQs pages. You can also find step-by-step instructions on logging your CE HERE.

Question: I finished my renewal but can't find my credential certificate. How can I print my certificate?

Answer: You can find step-by-step instructions for printing your CACVT credential certificate HERE!

Question: I renewed my credential but can't find my renewal approval email or my invoice from payment in my inbox. Is there another way to access these?

Answer: Yes! You can access all emails sent from CACVT, all invoices paid, all forms filled out, and your account settings by logging in to your CACVT.org account, clicking My Profile on the landing page under the blue and white name tag, and then clicking the subject you are looking for within the light blue header.

Question: I live in another state or am not currently acting within the role of a veterinary technician. Do I need to register with DORA?

Answer: Your option to become registered with DORA relies heavily on your professional needs. As of 1/1/2024, you may not utilize, or be represented under, the legally protected titles Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Veterinary Technician (VT) within Colorado unless you are registered with DORA.

Question: Do I need to be registered with DORA to renew my credentials with CACVT?
